Rotary Club Bangkok GRAD held its monthly meeting on December 17, 2024, at Intercontinental Hotel Bangkok, with South African food and culture as the theme of the evening.
Club president Mikhail Lebedev opened the event with welcome remarks on cultural exchange and international friendship. Guest speaker Karel De Lange then presented South African culture in Thailand, connecting the country's history with Thailand, the Dutch East India Company's trade with Siam, the Anglo-Boer War, South Africa's wine heritage, and traditional cuisine.
The programme continued with a tasting of South African dishes and wines. Guests were introduced to biltong, boerewors, koeksisters, and other flavours associated with South African hospitality. Charles from Siam BBQ Company shared his passion for South African food, while Marvel Beverage and Events Co., Ltd., the official KWV agent for the Indochina region, supported the wine selection.
The evening also included a moment of recognition for new members. Yuri Lyzhin presented certificates to welcome them to the club community. The meeting brought together learning, cultural appreciation, food, wine, and fellowship in one memorable night.
